Hope yours is a good one. Even though I am still recuperating from being in the hosptal, where I caught a crappy cough & cold, I still plan to attend the annual In-Law Food Fest.
With a fork in each hand.

A generous, kind friend offered us the (free) use of his Cherry Grove Beach, SC condo. Hot dog! I hadn't had a vacation in five years!
We rented a car, since both our vehicles are either pushing 100K miles or already over it.
We picked up the car, got the condo key & directions from our friend, and excitedly went home to pack and get ready to leave the next morning.
At 1:00 a.m., I began having chest pains and difficulty breathing.
So, instead of enjoying that nice salty air, dining out at nice restaurants, and hoping something edible would bump into my fishing hook - I spent a week wishing I could sleep in my own bed, battling pneumonia, and once again marveling at the expertise & compassion of the overworked, underpaid nurses and nursing assistants.
And curses on the CT scan guy, they found more cancer. I'll have to get him back for that. And I have to get better so I can SOMEDAY enjoy a few days at the beach again.

In other news, I see that Obama's vetting could chase away candidates. And from - where else? - Fox News - Past Controversies Hang Over Obama's Cabinet Picks.
Poor things. I hope they never have to apply for Social Security Disability or Medicaid.

In case you're wondering what all the Twilight ruckus is about, Andantette can tell you all about it. She fell in love with the books, and has been anxiously awaiting the movie (her review is mostly good).
Since I declined to read the books myself, she began reading them to me during her visits home.
I've just finished reading The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England, A Handbook for Visitors to the Fourteenth Century by respected British historian Ian Mortimer. It's about as far away from vampires and teen luv as you can get, but I have to admit the books are oddly compelling.
This is what the teenage girls are swooning over these days -
Ain't he purty? In my arrogant opinion, he needs a hair cut, a shave, and some fashion advice. For goodness sake, boy - look in the mirror occasionally.
Full disclosure - my girlhood crush, who really had it going on -

…or, as I prefer to call it, “taking an interest in the opinions of others”.
I knew, when I took a job at a church in deepest, darkest Redneck Heaven , that I would have ample opportunity to practice keeping my big liberal mouth shut.
It’s never been so hard as it is during this election year.
I’m still dumbfounded by all these otherwise intelligent people who rail against ‘socialism’ when they would be destitute without Social Security or both destitute and (likely) dead without Medicare.
Watching them scramble to ensure their children’s conscientious objector status would be a hoot if they didn’t wholeheartedly cheerlead for every American military action, current or future.
So, yesterday I got an earful of Why Republicans Will Lose the White House And A Lot Of Other Stuff.
’…McCain has laid the groundwork for feverish claims that the election was stolen, declaring that the community activist group Acorn — which, as Factcheck.org points out, has never “been found guilty of, or even charged with” causing fraudulent votes to be cast — “is now on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy.” Needless to say, the potential voters Acorn tries to register are disproportionately “other folks,” as Mr. Chambliss might put it.”Are they wondering if maybe they need to rethink Republcan policies? Do their candidates suck? Are cultural wedge issues no longer sure-fire winners?

I think – dare I hope? – I’ll wake up Wednesday morning with a big, Democratic smile on my face.
I think – dare I hope? – I’ll go visit my nursing homebound mother that morning, give her the good news, and get to see a big, Democratic grin on her face. She’ll forget all about it in two minutes, but it will be a happy two minutes for the both of us.
I think – dare I hope? – I will call my daughter and hear the joy in her voice. This will be the first general election in which she’s eligible to vote, and I think – dare I hope? – she’ll get the joy of being on the winning side.
I think – dare I hope? – Nate Silver is right, and that Kay Hagan will send the detestable Liddy packing back to her long-time actual home at the Watergate in DC.
I do regret I haven’t been able, physically, to help in the effort. But I think – dare I hope? – Barack and Joe would understand.
